Summers can be Life Changing

For those of you who don’t know or do know but need reminding, I worked at a camp ministry this summer called Glorieta Camps. It is a part of a family of camps called Camp Eagle. I was a part of their media staff which entailed taking pictures of all of the activities that were happening with every part of camp, interviewing campers, families and staff about their time and how God has worked in their lives. I grew up going to Glorieta with my own church and, yeah that was fun, but being on the other side of that has changed my life. I am not doing this for their benefit, even though I hope it will be, but I just long for other people like me to experience the same things I did.

I have always loved photography, like I have mentioned before, but being able to use it for a job and see how God can even use photography for His kingdom was astounding. Listening to children give their testimonies just about their short week of time at a camp, is like NO other. Being able to capture real moments of children laughing and playing with their parents is heart warming. Seeing kids take big risks and slide off a giant water slide or swing on a giant super swing sparks my need for adventure. I have never felt God more than this summer. It was amazing to see this passion that God put in my heart be used for His kingdom in ways I could’ve never imagined.

"Camp is so much more than being with friends and playing games."

Camp is so much more than being with friends and playing games. Camp is a place to break away from your everyday routine and be in a quiet place where God can speak to you in ways you would’ve never heard. Camp is a place to learn about you God is while being surrounded by His creation. It was amazing to be in the background and see God work in every way. God not only works in camper’s and families’ lives but staffers as well. I was able to see my roommates and co-workers experience God in real ways. I have had the most genuine and loving conversations this past summer. This summer for me was rough and I was broken in every single way. What I mean by that is that I was able to be confronted with areas in my life that had to be changed and sculpted by God alone.

I had a unique opportunity this summer to work with all of the staffers and be a part of everything that was happening. I made the most amazing friends. My co-workers are so in love with God that it bled out into their work. Being in the mountains for 3 months has literally changed my life and I just can NOT talk about Glorieta enough.

I was pushed above and beyond my comfort zone in like every area but it was for the best and God was able to work through me. Now I can say I know how to make a dirty chai latte, properly make a bed, record an interview, dress for like 4 seasons in one day, dance like a crazy monkey, and love people even when it is hard.

YOU CAN BE A PART OF THIS WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE TOO!
